Company Background…
Baileywyck Antiques, née Baileywyck Shoppes, was founded in Middleburg, Virginia, in 2006. Situated in the heart of Virginia’s beautiful and historic Horse and Hunt Country, Baileywyck quickly became one of the Washington DC/Northern Virginia area’s popular antique destinations. Lisa travels widely around the States and abroad in search of treasures to enhance your home—sometimes hers, too.

Philosophy. We care about our acquisitions and their presentation. Each item in our collection was personally selected and is tastefully staged in our gallery. We appreciate beautiful furnishings that have stood the test of time as well as their history. Though mood and timing may influence our purchasing decisions, ultimately, the items you find at Baileywyck are items we would be proud to have in our homes.

  • Spring 2019: Voted “Best of Virginia” (again) by readers of Virginia Living Magazine. (Note: Baileywyck has won this particular award many times in recent years.)

  • Size. Our 4,600 sq ft gallery, housed in a converted firehouse, is one of the largest in the WDC/Northern Virginia area.
  • Quality. Large selection of period pieces, most of which are at least 100 years old.
  • The Experience. Baileywyck’s gallery is carefully staged and curated, unlike many other antique shops which typically warehouse their pieces.

Here you will find a highly-curated array of gorgeous period furniture and home furnishings, including lighting, rugs, textiles, artifacts, accents, architectural pieces, tabletop items, distinctive gifts and a large selection of equestrian-themed art—all bedazzlingly-staged and housed in a 4,600 sq-ft converted firehouse.
  • Brookie Maxwell Gallery @Baileywyck. The oeuvre (±1,000 pieces) of important Manhattan-based artist, gallerist, and social activist Brookie Maxwell is housed in the Brookie Maxwell Gallery @Baileywyck
  • Giving Back. We use our monthly First Friday events to raise funds for local nonprofits.

Lisa Vella was born and raised in Long Island, NY. She received a BA in Criminal Justice from Villanova University. After college, Lisa worked as a parole officer in Philadelphia under Pennsylvania state Attorney General Ed Rendell before marrying and becoming mother to two boys. Her husband’s career took them to postings in Houston and the UK. While living in the UK, Lisa travelled extensively in Europe, refining her taste in antiques and home décor.

Antiques. Some years after returning to the States, with her sons successfully launched (one is managing partner of a wealth management firm in LA, the other is an independent fashion photographer in NYC), Lisa decided to turn her passions for shopping and antiques into a career, opening her own antique shop. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Nonprofit Involvement. Lisa has an extensive background of involvement with various charitable causes and nonprofit entities, including the following:
  • Fall 2017: Co-organized fundraiser for Canine Companions for Independence, raising over $65K.
  • 2006: Founded Golden Dreams Therapeutic Riding Center in Middleburg, VA. A portion of Baileywyck’s profits were used to underwrite Golden Dreams’ annual budget. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit provided therapeutic riding and related activities to special needs individuals until 2017.
  • Co-founder of what would become CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates), a national organization dedicated to helping distressed youths navigate the criminal justice system.
  • Former board member, National Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

What's in a Name?

Baileywyck is named after Lisa’s beloved Golden Retriever, Bailey. Though no longer with us, his memory lives on in her other Golden, Donnie—sadly, Emma Rose Rover passed in December 2018. Don can usually be found lolling about the shop and welcoming customers. Baileywyck is also a play on the word, “bailiwick,” meaning one’s particular area of interest or expertise.
